Locum Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine
West London Children’s Healthcare (WLCH) is an ambitious alliance between Imperial College Healthcare and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, together with Imperial College London. The aims of WLCH are to support paediatric care in North West London, encompassing primary care, secondary care andpublic health to support the healthy transition from birth into childhood, adolescence and early adulthood and improve population health for the children and young people across West London. The Royal Brompton and Harefield (RBH) Hospitals (now part of the Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT)) make up the largest specialist heart and lung Centre in the UK, caring for both adults and children. RBH manages a unique cohort of children with severe cardiac and respiratory disorders. The Paediatric Respiratory Department is amongst the busiest clinically, and most research active in the UK. This post is suitable for a specialist in paediatric respiratory medicine. There will be an opportunity for the post holder to develop their own interests within paediatric respiratory medicine in line with the demands and needs of the service. This joint post builds upon long-established links between the two Trusts and with Imperial College London.
The Royal Brompton Hospital (RBH) and West London Children’s Healthcare at St Mary’s Hospital are seeking a joint full time (10 PA) fixed term locum consultant appointment to cover maternity leave. The post holder will further develop the delivery and integration of services across West London, strengthen the link with the Royal Brompton Hospital and build a sustainable model of care for children in West London.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an expanding paediatric respiratory sub-specialist team within WLCH where the focus is on a strong clinical academic model through alignment with The Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health at Imperial College. This is one of several respiratory posts at West London Children’s Healthcare, aimed to strengthen the respiratory medicine theme in West London and the links with the Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health, Imperial College London.
Candidates should have strong interest and expertise in paediatric respiratory medicine (PRM) and sleep. Candidates should have CCT, or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent, with subspecialty accreditation or equivalent in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine.
Depending on the candidate, there may be opportunities to develop research interests. Paediatric respiratory disease is one of the core research themes of the Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health

This is a locum 10 PA job at Royal Brompton and St Mary’s Hospital sites. Direct clinical care and on-call commitment will vary depending on the background of candidates and the final job plan is open for discussion.
Applications are encouraged from those with a background in paediatric respiratory medicine and sleep. An example outline programmes is given and is flexible according to the background of the successful candidate. You will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Leads within three months of your start date.
It is expected that there will be a degree of flexibility in the consultant working pattern. The job plan is a guide of the expected average working week. However, we expect the postholder to adjust their working week within reason and working in co-operation with colleagues. Excellent organisational skills are important, as is the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams whilst upholding the values of both Trusts.. The appointee will ensure effective shared care arrangements between RBH and WLCH and support development of the clinical service at WLCH.
