Summary
Job Overview
-Mitie seek an experienced Airfield Operations Manager to join the team on Ascension Island for the overall management and the safe, effective and efficient delivery of contracted airfield operations and services for the UK MoD Ascension Island Base.
-This is a senior management position responsible for the contract delivery of airside services. This dynamic role will include thinking beyond the scope of the contract to enhance the contract delivery strategy through engagement with both client and key stakeholders.
-Provide Continuous development of airfield operations to underpin the South Atlantic Air Bridge and future contracts are key to this role.
Main Duties
-The primary role is to ensure all aircraft activities, movements and other associated activitiesare completed in accordance with MAA & CAA (as applicable) rules and procedures for such activities. This includes ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently, effectively and in a timely manner to meet operational targets and deadlines.
-The Airfield Operations Manager (AOM) is directly responsible for the management and oversight of all departments at the airfield.
-This role includes all Line Manager Responsibilities for Supply Section, Base Ops, Airport Security, Fuels &Lubricants, Mechanical Section, Motor Transport, General Engineering, and Visiting Aircraft Department.
-Ensuring all Airfield Engineering Standards, Practices and Procedures as directed by the Contract, Civil and MoD Regulations and Company Procedures are implemented and maintained. In particular the management and implementation of Aviation Security Policy in liaison with Air Safety Support International.
-As AOM, work with the QSHE Team to lead a Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental culture ensuring a robust and meaningful programme of safety awareness delivered consistently across the airfield activities, promoting a zero tolerance to unsafe behaviour. In particular, implementation of the internal assurance regime, Tool Box Talks and work place inspections.
-Work closely with the QSHE Team to ensuring that Mitie protocols are implemented to Health & Safety and welfare of all personnel operating within the AOM area of responsibility is maintained.
-Ensuring that personnel are only employed on work appropriate to their training, qualification and experience. Maintain an organisation that enables tradesmen to be supervised to the extent necessitated by their demonstrated knowledge, skills and competence.
-Advise DIO and AIB on all airfield and associated activities on Ascension Island Base for which Mitie Defence Ltd are responsible. Attend airfield and safety meetings as required.
-Undertake MoD training as required commensurate to the position including aircraft crash investigation and incident management.
-Work together with other senior managers; providing cover in the absence of the Account Director.
What we are looking for
-Minimum of 5 years' experience either in military or civilian airfield operations.
-Previous managerial experience at a senior level.
-Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; in particular with colleagues and other senior managers.
-Knowledge of AvSec procedures is desirable.
-Excellent management skills including decision-making, handling conflict, providing direction and vision.
-Good time management and organisation skills able to work to deadlines.
-Demonstrates attitude and ability to embrace knowledge, skill and personal development.
-People management skills - Able to achieve excellent results through the team and others.
-Ability to work well under pressure, logical problem solving with accuracy and attention to detail.Essential
-Full clean driving licence.
-Must be able to pass company medical.
-Ability to obtain BPSS security clearance.
Desirable
-ICAO Aviation Security Managers Course.
-Flight planning experience.
-PCMI ( Post Crash Incident Management).
-Experience in airfield maintenance procedures.
