JOB PURPOSE

-Contribute to corporate and statutory objectives to prevent homelessness by supporting households owed a statutory homeless duty to improve numeracy skills, personal budgeting and achieve tenancy sustainment.

-To achieve, as far as is practicably possible, financial and digital inclusion for people to enable them to manage their own financial arrangements in the future.

-To network and liaise effectively with the council's housing advice & prevention team, other relevant departments, external organisations and groups to develop strategies to address issues such as numeracy, budgeting, debt, income maximisation, food and fuel poverty, savings and welfare reform.

-Maintain and improve knowledge of legislation, regulations and entitlement to welfare benefits and income maximisation through professional development.

-To provide an effective assessment of needs and to devise and implement individual training and support plans with service users, maintaining accurate case notes, evaluation and outcomes, in line with Newport City Council's GDPR and confidentiality policies and procedures.

-To develop and maintain systems for monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness and evaluation of the training and support offered, including service user feedback and case studies and utilise this information to contribute to the review and delivery of services across the team.

-Prepare paper and digital resources to deliver structured training to individuals and groups in a variety of locations.

-Plan, prepare and deliver training using appropriate coaching and learning strategies matched to the needs of service users.

QUALIFICATIONS

-Educational standard to 'A' Level or equivalent or substantial relevant experience
PGCE/FETC or equivalent teaching/training qualification
Knowledge

-Understanding of how social exclusion and poverty impacts on people's lives

-Understand the support requirements of those disengaged from education and/ or lacking numeracy skills

-Knowledge of adult community learning

-Knowledge of related services provided by the statutory and voluntary sector

-Understanding and working knowledge of homelessness or support

-Knowledge and understanding of the Housing Wales Act 2014

Experience

-Completing assessments and developing support plans
-Working with vulnerable or disadvantaged groups of people
-Experience of supporting individuals to address basic skills/ barriers to learning/
numeracy
-Case management and record keeping
-Experience of delivering training or public speaking
-Working within a trauma informed environment
