An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced band 5 nurses to join the Ward leadership team as Charge nurses within the Hospital Division Acute wards based at Highgate Mental Health Centre, West Wing. We are looking to recruit compassionate, qualified, creative and motivated Nurses to help deliver crucial care. All Applicants must have at least 1 year post registration. The successful candidates will be provided with a clear development and support plan to ensure you maximise your learning within the role and offer you exposure to Ward leadership and learning
opportunities. As a charge nurse of a Male/Female Ward, the post holder will be committed to working with trauma informed care
models/approaches.
Opal Ward and Sapphire Ward are currently 17-bedded each with all Male and Female Acute ward respectively, currently based at Highgate Mental Health Centre, West Wing. We are seeking charge nurses who have the capacity and drive to take the ward through essential change process.

1. Manages the ward on a day-to-day basis at the direction of the Ward/Unit
Manager. Supervises other staff on the shift.
2. Co-operates with the Ward/Unit Manager to ensure that junior staff participate in professional development programmes and are regularly
appraised.
3. Deputise in the absence of the Ward/Unit Manager.
4. Ensures the confidentiality of their work as outlined in trust policy, the Data Protection Act and NMC guidelines on professional conduct.
5. Ensures that junior staff understands the Trust’s policies regarding Health & Safety at Work.
6. Maintains an effective working knowledge of the Mental Health Act l983 and other related legal and statutory frameworks and subsequent
revisions.
Understands, carries out and educates others in the administrative requirements of the Mental Health Act l983. Participates in the planning,
preparation for and evaluation of Mental Health Act Commission (MHAC) visits.
7. To participate in the duty nurse bleep holding rota.
8. When completing staff rotas adopt the most effective use of the Health Roster staff rota system as instructed by the Ward/Unit Manager.
9. To support the Ward/Unit Manager in ensuring that KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) relating to ward efficiencies are maintained and when required initiate actions to address any shortfalls
