Summary


Physiotherapist – Band 7 – Emergency Floor Therapy Team (EFTT)

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) – Royal Liverpool Hospital site.

30 hours per week (Permanent)

We are looking for a physio to provide expert assessment and management of a range of patients within the urgent care setting including musculoskeletal injuries, falls, frailty, neurology and respiratory care. The successful candidate will demonstrate confidence in managing a varied workload in a challenging, fast paced environment.

You will work with the other Band 7 therapy staff to jointly lead the therapy service covering Emergency Department and AMU, and will have strong links to the wider MDT, statutory and voluntary agencies external to the Trust, providing a quality service that meets the needs of patients and their families.

You will clinically coordinate a busy team including leading daily handover meetings and attendance at MDT boardrounds to review and support inpatient flow. The team has well established links to the reablement therapists based on the Broadgreen Hospital site.

You will develop and utilise nonclinical leadership/management skills; roster management, recruitment, annual leave planning, weekend and rota management, sickness management, Datix handling and complaints management.

The EFTT service is provided as an 8-8 service 7 days per week.
• To be responsible for providing specialist assessment and treatment of patients ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communications via liaison with the wider MDT and referral to other agencies as required.
• To manage and provide effective leadership of therapy staff within the Emergency Floor environment, including Rostering over a 7day service, supervision and training of junior staff.
• To manage and develop physiotherapy input to provide optimal patient care ensuring high standards of clinical practice, including service development/monitoring, audits and projects; liaising with medical and nursing staff within the ED areas.
• To respond and action any requests from the Emergency Floor service and the wider Trust or therapy service focussing on e.g. patient care, patient flow, national/trust policies.
• To support the weekly safety and governance meetings and to escalate concerns or report incidents as per Trust policy.
• We are committed to staff development and training through regular supervision, appraisal and personalised development plans. You will be responsible for the supervision of Band 5 and 6 physios, students and therapy assistants under the guidance of Therapy Managers and Clinical Specialists.

Clinical
To undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement agreed plans as appropriate including the routine treatment of complex patients in the manner that respects peoples’ privacy, dignity and individuality.

To act as advisor to Therapy staff regarding complex clinical issues and complex patient management, problem solving, making decisions, authorising appropriate action.

To ensure effective two way communication with patients and other Health Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.

To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understand.

To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided, implementing and reviewing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken/clinical speciality

Managerial & Leadership
To liaise with the Therapy Manager providing specialist advice on the planning and development of the service.

To represent Therapy Services on any service development working parties / meetings as appropriate

To support the leading of regular staff meetings and facilitate good communication between the department and Trust both on Trust and National issues ensuring effective dissemination of information.

To provide expert advice to colleagues

To monitor activity and support production/analysis of data for clinical speciality

Where necessary, to take appropriate action to ensure activity and waiting list targets are achieved within the service.

To assess the Therapy equipment required for the department.

To actively participate in the professional development programme of the physiotherapy /therapy department.
