Crynodeb

We recognise the challenges that people with protected characteristics may experience on the job market and in their career progression. We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities. We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as possible, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including ethnic minorities, people with a disability, and people with gender diverse identities.

Are you considering a move into cyber and National Security?

Can you bring fresh ideas and use your creativity to deliver strong outcomes as well as being a trusted policy advisor?

Do you have experience of working at pace, across a wide range of stakeholders?

If so, then we would love for you to apply!

The Cyber Team in the Transport Security Directorate (TSD) is recruiting a Higher Executive Officer (HEO) to support the delivery of a cyber incident response and cyber exercising function. This is an exciting role where you will have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert on cyber security and resilience in the transport sector, as well as develop experience in exercising and response work.

You will play a key role in the departmental response to cyber incidents impacting the transport sector and support development of a cyber exercising programme, which meets the needs of departmental and industry stakeholders.

Leading on discrete pieces of work, you will build relationships with a range of teams and senior officials across the department, as well as high-profile stakeholders across government and industry to ensure cohesive incident response and identify valuable exercising opportunities.

You will work as part of a supportive team to deliver real impact and improve the cyber resilience of the UK transport sector. This will involve building on lessons learned from cyber incidents and identified threats, to inform policy and regulatory levers.

TSD invests significantly in training and developing staff to prepare them not just for an interesting and challenging job, but also for a rewarding career in the Government security and cyber profession. Our expectation is that our staff will remain in post for at least two years.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Support on cyber incident management and exercising across DfT, working closely with modal teams and intelligence partners to develop DfT’s incident management policy.
  • Support on development and delivery of a DfT Cyber Exercising Programme, ensuring that exercising opportunities are reflective of emerging risks and lessons identified during previous incidents.
  • Help to lead the departmental policy response to a cyber incident impacting the transport sector. Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders to understand the details of the incident and provide accurate internal briefing to relevant seniors and colleagues.
  • Contribute to improving DfT cyber incident response processes in the round, particularly how DfT can support industry during a cyber incident.
  • Act as a “cyber champion” across the department, working closely with operational, security and resilience leads in DfT and across government to support industry.
  • Be an active and visible member of NSD and the directorate corporate work strands.
  • Be an active part of DfT’s cyber incident response cohort.
