The DBT China and Hong Kong team comprises three teams: Strategy & Security, Policy & Engagement, and Growth & Capability. The work of the team includes: engagement with a range of Chinese & Hong Kong government departments; increasing market access for UK businesses; coordinating, plan and delivering through our overseas posts in China & Hong Kong; engaging across UK government departments on China; managing the often-complex balance between growth, security, and other UK government priorities; and engagement with stakeholders in business and academia, as well as with third countries.
The teams work collaboratively, with a matrixed approach to how sectoral and policy responsibility are resourced and led across them. The ideal candidate will be motivated to learn about China and business and trade – in return they will be provided lots of opportunity to build skills and knowledge.
This are exciting and stretching HEO roles. We encourage a diversity of applicants from all backgrounds and experience to apply.
The successful candidates will be expected to:

- Collaborate across government to help ensure business and trade objectives are represented in policy-making on China, using evidence and analysis to support decision-making.
- Provide advice and briefing to ministers and senior officials on China trade and business issues.
- Lead on a number of business sectors/thematic policy issues within the team, developing expertise and sharing this across the team and department.
- Support the delivery UK-China government-to-government dialogues, working groups, technical exchanges, outward visits and inward delegations at both ministerial and senior official level.
