JOB DESCRIPTION –Support Worker Quarry Bank

HOURS: 40hrs
RESPONSIBLE TO: Spokes
SALARY: Between £11.44 per hour - £11.90 per hour depending on qualifications.
BASED FROM: Stevens Park, Quarry Bank. Dudley
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB: To support people with learning disabilities (trainees) to engage in work related activities.

You will be supported by the Service Manager of Spokes to provide a service that meets regulatory standards and contractual requirements whilst supporting adults with learning disabilities to have meaningful and purposeful day opportunity in a bicycle workshop setting, known as Spokes.

Your Key Responsibilities:

To patiently support the trainees who attend the day service to engage in cycle refurbishment and maintenance tasks helping them to make steady progress on their learning journey.

To work directly hands on with a small group of trainees, understanding their needs and working at their pace, showing patience and understanding.

After training and with experience you will be expected to complete a cycle technician qualification within the first year.

To contribute to the positive culture that exists within the Charity and to work with others to deliver high quality services to people with disabilities.

You will be accountable to the Service Manager of Spokes.

The service operates between 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday – Friday. Your working hours will be scheduled within these times. Occasional Saturday morning working (9am -12.30pm) by rota.

Day-to-Day responsibilities
1. To be personally responsible for your own attitude and approach towards the trainees, staff and others when in Spokes- Day Service. We expect a can do attitude to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.

2. You will work alongside other trained staff to work independently with trainees and volunteers.

3. You will be responsible for the welfare of the trainees to ensure the highest quality of support is provided, in line with our Policies. We do not provide personal care.

4. You will need to communicate appropriately with people, such as managers, other agencies, families and members of the public who may access the provision and the Spokes bike shop.

5. You will promote positive working relationships in the workplace with a “can do attitude”.

6. Health & Safety regulations must be adhered to, and risk assessments are regularly carried out and reviewed.

7. You will complete mandatory training and additional training in line with your role.

8. You will maintain records and use IT platforms to request leave and to communicate with others.

9. To be prepared to drive company vehicles, to meet the needs of the project.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

To demonstrate a good level of both written and spoken English.

Experience of working with people with disabilities in either a care or educational setting.

To be mechanically minded and to have a special interest in bike maintenance.

To be honest & reliable.

To have the ability to prioritise tasks

To be able to demonstrate resilience.

OTHER:

To hold a full UK driving licence and prepared to drive the company van.
