Religious Worker – Temporary – 2 years (maximum)

Job description
The Religious Worker is a spiritual resource for Hindu community residing in Reading and surrounding areas. The candidate shall work in accordance with the directives laid down by the Executive Committee (EC) and should behave in a “lead by example” manner.

Specific duties include:
• Open / close the Temple at the times specified by the EC, and remain present in the prayer hall at all times during the Temple’s normal / extended opening hours
• Clean the stage, Murtis including Shivling, puja samagri, Prasad / fruit bowls and prayer hall on a daily basis and prepare and maintain them in a presentable form for the congregation
• Take the Prasad from the devotees and offer it to the deities and give the Prasad to the devotees as they leave the prayer hall after the their prayer and aarti
• Receive money (donation) from the donors and issue the receipt immediately and hand over the collected donations to the treasury team at the first opportunity
• From time to time be ready to perform / or undertake all such reasonable duties and responsibilities which have been assigned by the EC that are in the benefits / interests of the charity – Reading Hindu Centre

Desirable requirement:
• Experience of working in a similar role and / or similar environment for at least 2 years
• Must be well versed with Sanskrit, the sacred language of chanting Mantras
• Ability to sing bhajans and Stotra
• Ability to recite katha

Working hours, facilities and remuneration:
• At least 30 hours per week at the rate of minimum wage, self-contained double bedroomed accommodation will be provided in the Temple premises at a concessional rate
