Job title: Senior Transformation Advisor
Scale: G6
Job Location: London
Background
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is the largest government department and serves the public by upholding the rule of law and by delivering an efficient, fair, timely and effective justice system in which the public has confidence.
The MoJ works together and with other government departments and agencies to bring the principles of justice to life for everyone in society. From our civil courts, tribunals and family law hearings, to criminal justice, prison and probation services. We work to ensure that sentences are served and offenders are encouraged to turn their lives around and become law-abiding citizens. We believe the principles of justice are pivotal and we are steadfast in our shared commitment to uphold them.
This role sits within the Service Strategy & Transformation directorate. We are responsible for:
• Working across the Service Transformation Group (with Justice Digital, the Legal Aid Agency, Office of the Public Guardian and the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority), to understand and drive collaboration on current transformation plans
• Identifying cross-cutting transformation opportunities across the Ministry of Justice that can drive cutting-edge user experience, efficiencies and delivery of policy goals
• Baselining and supporting performance and prioritisation across the Service Transformation Group
• Bringing together all areas of the Group to collectively create a clear and compelling narrative for delivery over the next 3-5 years.
• Engaging across the Ministry of Justice and its agencies to gain buy-in and support for our initiatives.
• Supporting the Director General for Service Transformation with strategic and analytical activity.
Overview
We are looking for an experienced individual to join the Transformation Team as Senior Transformation Advisor. You will stand up and lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver against areas of our transformation plan at pace. You will be responsible for the delivery of at least one ExCo priority area, for example running an end-to-end pilot to design solutions to some of the most difficult problems in Justice. You must be able to work with data to analyse the cost and effectiveness of any proposed solutions. If you have experience coaching teams in new ways of working (e.g., “agile”), experience working with digital teams and/or service design that will be helpful. As a representative of the Service Transformation Directorate, excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm and reliable under pressure are also essential. Directorate staff are both London and nationally based with a flexible working arrangement to suit the needs of the business, which brings an added dimension to developing relationship management skills. The role will provide an excellent opportunity to work at the heart of MoJ in a vibrant environment, learning how Service Transformation Directorate operates within MoJ as well as the wider Civil Service.
Job Description
Key responsibilities include the following:
• Lead start-up activities for transformation projects, including resource identification, recruitment, and development, while producing key initiation documents to define project scope and target operating model.
• Act as single service owner, by owning and managing the overall project plan and documentation, ensuring delivery aligns with objectives, timelines, and budget constraints.
• Oversee the implementation of effective stakeholder management tools and techniques, providing assurance on risk management, business case development, and benefits realisation.
• Manage day-to-day project operations, fostering a collaborative team environment and demonstrating strong leadership aligned with organisational values.
• Set and implement a best practice product discovery and delivery methodology for your team. Enable them to be truly iterative by ensuring clear governance, roles, responsibilities, and escalation routes.
• Engage with key stakeholders, including Justice colleagues, to drive project progress, facilitate discussions, and resolve conflicts while promoting collaborative relationships.
• Line manage Transformation Leads and Advisors, as well as managing cross-functional teams on a project basis
To note: the above list of key responsibilities is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks that may be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
