Product Development Chemist Permanent Dudley £30,000 per year

Our growing client, based in Dudley is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person with a degree (or equivalent) in chemistry (organic or polymer) to be their product development chemist. The purpose of this role is to provide support to the development of the business to deliver projects in line with the 5-year growth strategy and to provide the independent support of diversified portfolio to work on improvements for existing products as well as projects focusing on growth areas and commercial support.

Key responsibilities:

• Research of raw materials and applications to implement into development projects.
• Test products and samples on a laboratory scale (products in development or existing products that need changing or improving) and produce reports.
• Scale up products developed in the laboratory and test to check they are fit for purpose and that we can make them.
• Assess the supply chain of raw materials for newly developed products. Reformulation of products to incorporate raw material changes.
• Ensure we can make the development products in a full production run and right each time and produce reports.
• Prepare and send samples to customers for customer trials. Produce product specifications and manufacturing methods for finished products.
• Document formulations on the El system (Bill of Materials) Present to the commercial teams to update on project progress.
• Provide training for sales team members to understand the nature of the product and unique selling points.
• Provide support for the wider technical team including Quality Control and Compliance.
• Undertake any other tasks and duties as required by the Company.

Skills and experience:

• Degree or equivalent in chemistry organic or polymer.
• Some experience of working in a commercial laboratory.
• Experience of undertaking research.
• Experience with general processing and testing of materials.
• Have used test methods and test equipment.
• Experience of making corrections and adjustments to a formulation.
• knowledge of raw materials and their interactions.
• Dealing with customer queries and challenges.
• High numerate and literate.
• Excellent communication skills in English – both verbal and written.
• Ability to analyse data and solve problems in a methodical and logical manner.
• Research skills.
• Attention to details and accuracy.
• Intermediate IT skills (MS Office).
• Time management.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
