Crynodeb

The National Patient Safety Team is looking to appoint an exceptional individual who can demonstrate experience in patient safety improvement and outcomes, ideally at regional and national level. The post-holder will be able to demonstrate key skills in quality improvement science, improvement programme design, planning and delivery oversight, and the ability to engage and connect with stakeholders across systems, including patient groups.

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic Patient Safety Improvement Team that is responsible for the design, oversight and delivery of national programmes as outlined in the NHS strategy for patient safety – this post will work with the Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme.

The reason for the role being advertised as fixed term is due to the substantive post holder temporarily being seconded out of the team.

The postholder will support the national scale up of evidence-based interventions and an individual portfolio of improvement projects, working with a broad range of stakeholders across the system to support appropriate and aligned improvement strategies, based on a strong understanding of quality improvement science, patient safety in healthcare systems, and project and programme management knowledge and expertise.

Essential elements of this position include:
• Support the planning and delivery of the Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme
• Work jointly with our delivery partners the Health Innovation Network’s, 15 regionally based Patient Safety Collaboratives, and ensure programme/project management are aligned with the programmes plans and provide coaching, advice and guidance on quality improvement methodologies and approaches, including measurement for improvement
• Work with Patient Safety Collaboratives to ensure that all reporting is accurate, appropriate and timely and demonstrate the impact and value of the programme, through the assurance process.

The NHS England board have set out the top-level purpose for the new organisation to lead the NHS in England to deliver high-quality services for all, which will inform the detailed design work and we will achieve this purpose by:
• Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities.
• Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential.
• Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
• Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
• Delivering value for money.

Some of the skills and experience we are looking for include:
• Experience of working in either a patient safety or quality improvement role within a recognised national programme in the NHS
• Expertise in patient safety and Quality Improvement science
• Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to provide complex information to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders in order to co-produce or design aspects of health and care service
