This role is for an experienced physiotherapist seeking a position beyond that of a usual NHS management role. This is an opportunity to lead the NHS Private Patient Unit (PPU) multi-professional therapy team, which comprises of physios, Therapy assistants, a dietitian and an Occupational therapist.
The individual will be an astute leader who possesses significant understanding of, and ability to, apply clinical leadership alongside impeccable customer service provision in a commercial environment. We work hard to achieve great things, because we believe you get out what you put in.
The PPU Physiotherapist and Therapies Lead will be a vital member of the clinical multidisciplinary leadership team and will report to the Head of Nursing and Clinical Support. As the subject matter expert the postholder will provide assurance to the PPU board and Trust, that care is always delivered to the utmost standard and governance is always followed. This role requires a physiotherapist with diverse experience ideally across different areas of medicine, surgery, care of the elderly, renal, orthopaedics, etc…, because the PPU operates as a small hospital within a hospital potentially covering any and all parts of clinical care- this may also include outpatient.
To work autonomously and provide expert assessment and intervention for own caseload of patients with complex or chronic presentations such as Care for the Older People, Medical, Surgical, Orthopaedic, Renal, and Amputee services. To plan, implement and monitor the delivery of a highly specialist, evidence based, and clinically effective therapy service on PPU
This post is at least 60% clinical and 40% managerial
To manage the Therapy team which currently includes; Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and Dietetics, and Therapy Assistants/Technicians and could include, Hand therapist, podiatrists and speech and language therapy. This role will predominately be based at the Royal Free- Hampstead site but any other site out of which the PPU operates will also be required
In conjunction with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Support for PPU, The RFH Head of NHS Therapies and the PPU Medical Director, develop therapy services in line with strategic objectives and organisational priorities and world class care values, with governance in mind
Assist in business planning, developing service level agreements and operating procedures.
To have responsibility for clinical audit, research, developing guidelines and implementing best practice within the PPU
To ensure personal and development of the therapy team through training activities for internally and externally to the Trust
Represent PPU’s Therapy team at internal and external meetings to assist with the development of business

The Private Practice Physiotherapist and Therapies Lead will provide effective, visible leadership in the unit. Working closely with the appropriate professional specialty managers and leads, will be responsible for assuring professional standards, practice and statutory regulations are strictly adhered to thus delivering excellent patient care. ‘Leading from the front’ is an important part of this role, including visibility at all sites the PPU operates out of on a regular basis.
The postholder will be a natural networker, able to work with others across departments, specialties and geographical locations to negotiate access to finite capacity resources, maximising their value to the greatest extent for all involved. This is especially important as a close working relationship with NHS therapies is vital to ensure the highest possible standards of quality. A continuous improvement mindset must be employed so that the status quo is always reviewed with critical thinking.
