BartsLife Sciences Communications & Marketing Manager

Barts Life Sciences (BLS) is a partnership between Barts Health NHS Trust, the largest Trust in London and 2ndlargest in the UK, and Queen Mary University of London, a research-intensive Russell Group University, that’s one of the most cited globally for medical research.

The mission of BLS is to accelerate innovation into the Trust for the benefit of the community we serve in North-East London and beyond. Working with a diverse population of over 2.5 million people, BLS offers a “bench to bedside” opportunity with access to a wealth of diverse data through our precision medicine platform, capacity for large-scale phase 1-3 clinical trials and a set of national biobanks. These assets, together with a vibrant clinical academic ecosystem and the development of new commercial life sciences real estate across North-East London will enable innovation to be scaled and adopted to improve health on a worldwide scale.

An opportunity has now arisen for a new team member to serve as the BLS Communications and Marketing lead. With the aim of supporting the BLS vision of transforming the health outcomes and economic opportunities in East London, the successful post holder will be a key appointment into BLS and will be crucial in helping deliver our transformative ambition.

The principal focus of this role will be leading BLS’ communications, engagement and marketing activities, developing, implementing and delivering a communications strategy, branding and marketing plan and supporting engagement with internal and external stakeholders, for example life sciences cluster developers and commercial industry. The post holder will identify, plan and deliver a broad range of integrated communications campaigns which support BLS’ strategic priorities

1. Lead the development, implementation and delivery of a three-year comms, marketing and PR strategy for BLS, taking account of other clusters nationally and internationally and providing an overall plan for life sciences impact for Barts Health and QMUL

2. Lead the development of all marketing collateral ensuring strategic alignment with Barts Health’s and QMUL’s organisational and strategic priorities, working with comms & marketing teams, other internal teams and external stakeholders as appropriate

3. Review the BLS brand and create a brand growth strategy

4. Lead the development of assessment tools to allow BLS to assess their position in the market and any steps needed to retain competitiveness or meet customer / partner expectations more fully

5. Lead communications management for the internal team, advising on and providing feedback on all collateral and social media posting prior to publication. Ensure that all communications embody the values of BLS and that the BLS vision is well-communicated.

6. Ensure that the benefits of BLS is communicated effectively internally and to external key stakeholders, including our local community.
