Summary

This is a great opportunity for a successful graduate to begin their career and gain local government experience whilst being supported by experienced professionals. A Graduate Planning Officer will be responsible for case work including providing advice on and assessing planning applications and appeals, whilst supporting the wider Development Management team in its delivery of a wide range of projects.

The successful applicant will be highly motivated and an enthusiastic team player with the ability to make effective decisions and communicate those confidently and tactfully. Possessing the abilities to analyse, interpret and evaluate detailed information and produce clear and accurate reports are key skills to be successful in this role.

Chelmsford City Council are a large district authority, the first city in Essex, and it is an exciting and busy time to be joining us. In addition to the 2000+ planning applications that we receive each year we are also reviewing our Local Plan which sets out new proposed sites for strategic and local developments. There is also the ongoing Chelmsford Garden Community project which is a growing development of 10,000 new homes and employment sites.
