About us

We are Katharine House Hospice, and we provide free palliative care to almost 2,000 families living with incurable illness each year. Our Marketing and Communications Team plays a vital role in supporting all departments – from care services to retail, fundraising, and more –helping to amplify our impact across Stafford and the surrounding areas.

The role

In this role, you will be at the heart of our storytelling efforts, crafting compelling case studies and copy that cut through the noise and reveal the true essence of each story. Your work will be varied and impactful, from raising essential funds to changing perceptions about hospice care. You’ll manage multiple deadlines in a lively and collaborative environment, using your sensitivity and compassion to tell the stories that matter most.

Key responsibilities

Craft and manage case studies and communications that open hearts and minds.
Conduct sensitive interviews with patients and families, ensuring their stories are told with empathy and respect.
Manage multiple stories, adapting to the ever-changing communications landscape.
Support campaigns to raise funds, increase referrals, and enhance the public’s understanding of our work.
Collaborate with patients, families, colleagues, journalists, and high-value stakeholders to place stories and content that engage target audiences.
What we’re looking for

We’re seeking someone who has:

A talent for writing and storytelling with exceptional attention to detail.
Experience editing and proofreading written work.
Strong interview skills and the ability to handle sensitive topics with care.
Skills to take strong images to accompany the story. Experience of inspiring and motivating others to achieve shared goals.
Excellent news sense and media handling.
Experience in placing stories and key messages to engage target audiences.
Knowledge of media laws, GDPR, PECR, information governance, copyright, intellectual property rights, etc.
Charity experience is highly desirable.
Experience working on communications campaigns and evaluating output would be advantageous.
