Contract Management Director - New Hospital Programme

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Contract Management Director to lead our contract management team within the New Hospital Programme (NHP). This role is pivotal in overseeing the delivery of NHS's Health Infrastructure Plan, which aims to transform hospital construction and drive significant savings through innovative approaches.

About the Role:As the Contract Management Director, you will lead a team at the heart of NHP's delivery efforts. Your responsibilities will include managing work packages, overseeing pre- and post-contract management, and establishing strategies to handle and resolve supplier disputes. Reporting to the Programme Commercial Director, you will engage directly with the NHP and NHSE Executive and Senior Leadership Teams.

About the Team:The New Hospital Programme is dedicated to changing the way hospitals are built, incorporating repeatable design, modern construction methods, new clinical planning approaches, and innovations in sustainability and digital technology. You will be part of a forward-thinking team committed to achieving these ambitious goals.

Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership:Represent NHP as an expert in Contract Management. Lead the delivery of national-level contract management strategies, ensuring alignment with NHP's overarching goals. Act as a senior role model for inclusion and Programme values.
• Strategy Development:Define and implement pre- and post-contract management strategies, ensuring they are understood and effectively executed across the Programme.
• Supplier Management:Lead the performance management of suppliers, ensuring they meet Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators. Drive continuous improvement and address performance issues proactively.
• Programme-Level Management:Provide contract management support across project lifecycles, ensure consistent application of statutory provisions in contracts, and handle complex contractual disputes.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
• Educated to a master’s level or equivalent experience in a similar role within large, complex organisations.
• Extensive experience in contract management and supplier relationship management.
• Proven track record in delivering complex programmes in the public or private sector.
• Leadership experience in a large and complex environment, with a strong ability to manage stakeholder relationships and drive organisational change.

Desirable Attributes:
• Relevant professional qualifications in programme or contract management.
• Experience in managing contracts in major works environments, particularly within government or the public sector.
• Commercial experience in the manufacturing and infrastructure industries.
