Chesterfield Borough Council are seeking to appoint a legal officer to support the council’s response to property, procurement and contract law matters.
The work will include drafting documents and undertaking a technical role which supports the council as property owners (commercial lettings and disposals) and procurement and contract advice for contractors, goods and services.
Candidates with experience of one particular area mentioned above are encouraged to apply. The candidate, with supervision from solicitors and other legal officers, will assist on other legal processing on behalf of the council in sales, purchases, leases, licences and right to buy transactions where required.
The post holder could play a key role in securing income generation for the council, this includes income streams from completing letting of the councils industrial and out of town centre offices properties (360 properties) and its town centre portfolio of retail shops and offices (230 units). Contributing to achieving receipt of an annual rent role of approximately £4.5 million. Timely completion of legal documentation is required to ensure income streams are brought on board at the earliest opportunity.
The successful candidate will provide legal advice and assistance on transactions in relation to landlords and tenants and other property matters including securing capital income by completing sales of land and premises. The team also draft and advise on procurement and contracts law for contractors, goods and services.
The role will support the day-to-day activities necessary for the efficient and effective handling of the legal side of property, procurement and contract law matters in accordance with legislation. The post holder will manage a personal workload that is appropriate to their skills and abilities. Good working knowledge in relation to either property or procurement and contract law transactions is required.
