We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Senior Clinical Fellow at Speciality Registrar (StR) level to join our Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) team at Barts Health NHS Trust.
The HPB Centre, based at the Royal London, has been in existence since 2000 and grew out of the Trust’s desire to develop this sub-specialty as part of its portfolio. The Unit was designated the tertiary HPB referral centre for North-East London Hospitals: Homerton, Barts Health NHS Trust (Hospitals: St Barts, Newham, Whipps Cross, Mile End), Barking, Havering and Redbridge (Hospitals: Queens, King George’s) and South Essex (Hospitals: Basildon and Southend) in 2003.
Our catchment area for tertiary referrals, including East Sussex, covers a population of 3.1 million people. That makes us one of the largest HPB units in the South-East.
This training Fellowship (at post-CCT level) is in HPB Surgery.
The HPB Surgery Unit at Barts and the London NHS Trust is based at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. The other sites within the Trust are St Bartholomew’s Hospital in Smithfield, Newham Hospital in Plaistow and Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone.
The team consists of 5 consultant surgeons (Mr Deepak Hariharan (Clinical Lead HPB), Mr Sivasanker Masillamany (Locum), Mr Hemant Kocher, Mr Ajit Abraham and Mr Vincent Yip along side, 3-4 SpR-grade trainees in addition to this post, 2-3 SHO-grade trainees, 3 FYIs, 3 Nurse Specialists, 2 MDT Co-Ordinator and 2 secretaries. The workload covers all aspects of HPB Surgery except for liver transplantation.
This fellowship will provide initial 12 months of specialist training in HPB Surgery extendable to maximum of 24 months upon satisfactory review , based at the Royal London Hospital. A detailed plan of work setting out the objectives of the post, success criteria and timetables for achievement of
specific areas of sub-specialty interest will be set within one month of taking up the appointment, against which in-post and end-of-post monitoring and evaluation will take place.
