Summary

During this apprenticeship you will work towards gaining a qualification as a Horticulture or landscape construction operative Level 2.

What will the apprentice be doing?
• Assist as directed with all tasks in connection with the maintenance, inspection and upkeep of the Town Council’s parks, play areas, open spaces (including lakes and conservation areas), sports facilities, properties and street furniture, ensuring that they are kept in good order and to a high standard
• Assist with general handyperson tasks including any necessary painting, repairs and cleaning as required to Town Council properties and equipment to the quality and standards specified
• Ensure that all tools and equipment used are properly looked after and to assist with their safekeeping
• Assist with upkeep of council vehicles and to complete vehicle mileage sheets and worksheets, if relevant, as required
• Empty dog / litter bins and ensure rubbish is available for collection
• To undertake any other reasonable tasks as directed
• To attend college and complete coursework / exams on time and to a high standard

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The training provider is Wiltshire College & University. You will work towards the Horticulture or landscape construction operative Level 2 apprenticeship standard which includes the following qualifications;
• (Core) Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (Ofqual registered) minimum 1-day course
• (Horticulture Operative) Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides OR City and Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides
• (Horticulture Operative) Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticide Using Hand Held Equipment OR City and Guilds Level 2 Award In The Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Hand Held Equipment
• (Landscaping construction) City and Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Abrasive Wheel Machines or Lantra Abrasive Wheel Machines Course
