We are looking to recruit 3 permanent and 1 fixed term contract Blue Badge Officer to join our team in Colchester. Please note, the fixed term contract is for a period of 12 months.
The Opportunity
The Customer Specialist role within the Blue Badge team, will see the successful applicant undertake administration of the Blue Badge Scheme for ECC residents, covering from the initial application stage right through to the issuing a badge.
Accountabilities
- Processing all Blue Badge applications in line with the National legislation and guidance, whilst applying the Council's processes.
- Responding to both postal and email enquiries, producing bespoke responses as appropriate. Sending Referrals for applications requiring an Independent Mobility Assessment (IMA) appointment.
- Reviewing assessment reports, updating the system, and informing applicants of the outcome of their application.
- Issuing Blue Badges using relevant systems.
- Updating systems with all required information accurately.
- Using all systems following the relevant guidelines
- Producing and formatting letters, personalising as appropriate ready to be printed and posted out by the team.
- Assisting with customer call-backs as required
- General Blue Badge admin tasks as required.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office, email, etc).
- Attention to detail, as accuracy is essential for the role.
- Good English and Maths skills.
- Good communication skills.
- A personable demeanour.
- Good approach to learning and the ability to retain information, as there will be a significant amount of learning involved.
- Have a desire to succeed and a willingness to learn new skills and demonstrate a good work ethic.
- Ability to deliver duties, as required; being well organised, reliable, and able to meet deadlines, whilst appropriately handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Excellent communication skills are essential, as well as an ability to build and establish relationships, a friendly approach.
- A flexible, positive, proactive can-do attitude is a must.
- Ability to work productively with minimum supervision.

Interviews
The first stage of the interview process will require you to complete a video assessment where you will be asked set questions, and you will need to record your response. The second stage will involve a formal interview with the hiring team. Formal interviews will take place week commencing 23 rd September 2024.
