Crynodeb

Who we are;

The Grace Eyre Foundation is a charity based in Brighton & Hove and the wider Sussex community that has been working with people with a Learning Disability and autistic people since 1898. Our mission is to work towards being led by people with Learning Disabilities and autistic people to deliver high-quality housing, support and activities in their local communities. The people we support tell us that they want “good support from kind and friendly people” – so that is what we are looking for!

Introduction to the role

Corporate Appointeeships are useful for people without the capacity to manage their own benefits. An appointee will deal with the DWP to ensure that a person is on and receives the right benefits and can access their money to live the life they want to. Grace Eyre manage appointeeships within the finance team and are now looking to hire a specialist to focus on providing a consistent, safe, excellent person centred service to the people we support.

Brief outline of the role:

This role will be taking over the management of the appointeeships we already manage. You will also be growing the service to take on managing more of the people we support’s benefits via appointeeships where there is need. You need the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively as you will work across Grace Eyre with all departments to understand how we are managing the people we support’s money and where there is risk or need. You will work with local authorities to get capacity assessments as needed.

You will sit within the Finance Department and report into the Corporate Director. You will need to be proactive and self-reliant.

The role is varied, interesting and will present unique opportunities for someone with an interest in social care, as well as relevant experience and good communication, finance and IT skills to help and protect vulnerable people and their families.

Experience of working with appointeeships and a working knowledge of benefits would be very helpful. Knowledge of the relevant legislation such as the mental capacity and care act and guidance on safeguarding vulnerable adults and their financial affairs would also be useful. However, training will be made available so do consider applying if you have genuine interest in protecting vulnerable adults and the skills we need.

We asked one of the people we are appointee for what they would like in someone supporting them with their benefits. He said that money is a private topic and he is not always comfortable talking about it. He would like the person who might help with his finances to have the following qualities:

A good, clear communicator, who can communicate to him directly, and be available for questions.
Knows him and his situation
Trustworthy
Organised
Approachable
