Experienced Senior HCSW roles on the acute surgical wards at the BRI
Working as a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) at University Hospital Bristol and Weston is an immensely rewarding job, your care can make makes a real difference to patients’ lives. We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate and hard-working individuals that believe in our Trust Values.
TheSenior HCSWrole is a Band 3 role and previous healthcare experience is essential, in an acute/hospital setting is essential. Successful applicants should have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a high level of English language competency.
Vacancies are available on:
· Ward A609: Surgical Trauma assessment Unit – a unit that specialises in the the initial assessment of patients referred by their GP’s or the Emergency Department.
· Ward A700: an acute surgical ward specialising in thoracic, head and neck surgery. Providing a great opportunity to look after patients who have undergone complex major surgery.
· Ward A701: the short stay surgical unit, a fast paced ward caring for patients before and after surgical procedures
Working Pattern:We care for our patients every day of the week so we will need you to work a range of shift patterns including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.. Please do check this at your interview. Depending on your shift pattern and working hours, you may also receive additional enhancements to your pay.

Working as a Healthcare Support Worker on the adult inpatient wards you will be involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients. You will be working alongside a registered Nurse to provide essential; nursing care for paediatric patients. You will be Helping your patients (both male and female) with daily living tasks, including such washing and going to the toilet (hygiene & continence) or helping with their meals (nutrition).
Helping with mobility needs and providing pressure area care.
Providing emotional support to patients and their families.
Providing one to one observation for patients who present a high risk due to clinical condition.
Ensuring that the ward environment is clean and safe preventing infection and falls.
As a senior healthcare worker you will also be taking and recording patients’ vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to a patient’s condition to the registered nurse. Some clinical areas may require you to be proficient in additional clinical skills such as ECGs, venepuncture, simple dressings as required by the ward area
When competent you will be training and supporting new and junior team members, including student nurses.

Working Hours: 37.5hrs per week (full time) or 24hrs per week (part time)
You will be working on an inpatient ward, and you will be required to work long shifts (12hours) which include days/nights, weekend and Bank Holidays.
This is physically demanding role, assisting patients who may have poor mobility, and you will be on your feet for long periods.
This is an emotionally demanding role and requires you to adapt quickly to the constantly changing clinical demands on an acute inpatient ward.
