We welcome expressions of interest for this exciting opportunity for a substantive consultant appointment.
The post-holder will have a 10 PA contract (requests for part-time working would be considered) with a focus on school-age referrals (ADHD and ASD) as well as a special school clinic. There is flexibility in the job plan, and informal discussions would be welcome. An interest in safeguarding, progressing to the Named Doctor role, would be welcome.
We are a team of 6 consultant community paediatricians, 2 specialist doctors and 4 speciality doctors, as well as a community grid trainee SpR post. Also part of the team are a clinical psychologist, assistant psychologist, ASD pathway practitioner, OTs and physios, and we work closely with speech and language therapy and educational psychology partners. There are good links with social care, local education authorities and the ICB.
Participation in the out-of-hours Child Protection on-call rota (currently 1 in 6) would be negotiable depending on the individual circumstances of the applicant.
• Undertake the assessment of outpatient referrals of school age children with suspected neurodevelopmental difficulties, particularly ADHD and ASD.
• Provide ongoing management to children and young people with a range of disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders
• Take on direct responsibility for the care of children with learning and physical disabilities at a local Special School
• Participate in the existing Safeguarding on-call rota, including for children who are suspected victims of sexual abuse in-hours (additional training is available if required) and child death. Whilst the rota is currently a 1:6, the individual contribution could be discussed at pre-interview discussions and would be negotiated at job-planning.

There is a planned move for this service anticipated during 2025 when thisrole and base of work will relocate toRoyal Bournemouth Hospital site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
