The post holder will be expected to have a working knowledge of all infrastructure systems, being able to assist and undertake work across all areas when required, the post holder will however be the subject matter expert for servers.

As a server engineer the post holder will be expected to authorise all changes to the Server environment including installs, moves and changes, undertake risk assessments of any changes proposed and report to the Infrastructure Support Manager as appropriate.

During standard support hours the Server engineer will take ownership of escalated Server incidents and Problems, and handle until an acceptable resolution is achieved.

• Provide day to day hands on pro-active and re-active complex Server maintenance and support.
• Carry out upgrades and keeping up to date documentation as defined by the Infrastructure Service Manager.
• Monitoring outstanding Incidents and Tasks against customer Service Level Agreements,prioritisingcalls effectively, keeping users up to date with progress and initiating escalation procedures where required.
• Monitor, manage and report on server capacity and availability, carry out regular health checks on all servers.
§ Take ownership of escalated Server incidents and Problems, and handle until an acceptable resolution is achieved. Analyse and investigate a range of highly complex technical problems and develop and design an appropriate server solution.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

Key Skills and Experience:
• Technical Documentation and procedure experience
• Microsoft Active Directory 2012 and later including group policy design and troubleshooting.
• Server virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware vSphere / Nutanix AHV)
• Network services (DNS, DHCP, WINS, RADIUS)
• Substantial experience working in a 3rd line support
• HP Server Hardware
• Enterprise level storage systems
• Enterprise level backup software and hardware
• Internet security technologies
• Email security technologies
• Endpoint security technologies
• Extensive Microsoft Server experience
