The Bristol Centre for Enablement is seeking a friendly, enthusiastic and personable Field Service Engineer to work within our Wheelchair & Special Seating Service.

You will work autonomously to offer a specialist repair service for wheelchair users. Strong problem solving and fault-finding skills will facilitate timely repairs to be undertaken, enabling patients to maintain an optimum level of independence. Good communication skills will be required as you will have daily contact with a wide variety of patients, both adults and juniors, with individual needs and challenges in a range of settings such as home addresses, schools and care facilities.

A varied daily workload will require a range of repair skills so a broad engineering background would be advantageous. The successful candidate must be able to maintain accurate, detailed call notes and see jobs through to completion.

The post would suit candidates with a background in vehicle repair and maintenance, machine servicing, and other machine repair services.

Candidates must:
• Hold a full, clean UK driving license
• Be able to undertake a degree of physical work/manual handling tasks including lifting, bending and kneeling
• Engineering qualifications would be an advantage however training will be provided and your experience can be further enhanced through our apprenticeship programme
• To undertake repairs and refurbishments to mechanical and electrical medical equipment such as wheelchairs, their components and batteries, carrying out diagnostic testing of faulty and damaged equipment in a variety of community settings (e.g. Home Addresses, Schools, Care homes etc.)
• Participating in the On Call rota across the region
• Timely completion of all paperwork
• Carry out refurbishment at the in-house workshop
• Liaison with the wheelchair assessment team to establish patient requirements
• Daily care of service vehicle supplied

The base for this post is at one of our offsite locations at the Independent Living Centre at Cheltenham, serving Gloucestershire and surrounding areas as part of the Bristol Centre for Enablement (BCE) family. BCE is a regional enablement centre in Patchway who provide a range of specialist disability equipment for patients across the South West.
• Planned maintenance, replacement and / or repair of mobility equipment.
• Adherence to NBT quality standards of care.
• Participation in emergency on call rota.
• Safe driving, care and stocking of service vehicle.
• Ensure safe completion of work at schools, home address etc.
• Repair and refurbishment of electrical motors and equipment.
• Wheel refurbishment and replacement of tyres for power chairs.
• Testing of batteries.
• Diagnostic testing of faulty controller modules.
• Timely completion of job sheets, referral forms, planned maintenance and on call paperwork, logging all time taken and parts used.
• Delivery and fitting of accessories and modifications to wheelchairs as required.
• Care and responsibility for your service vehicle; both when at work and where parked after hours at home.
• Ensuring vehicle is in sound condition and daily pre-operation checks are done
• Ensuring vehicle is in a clean condition and driven courteously.
