Specific Role and Responsibilities

· To deliver and maintain a high-quality of care and support which meets the physical, emotional, educational, health, intellectual, social, and cultural needs of the children and young people. All support staff should work from the guidelines of relevant regulations and legislation, such as the 1989 and 2004 Children’s Act, Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 with the Quality Standards, the Care Standards, and all other relevant legislation.

· Ensuring that each young person’s care plan is followed and amended, when appropriate, to reflect their individual needs.

· Attending to everyday living skills in relation to childcare. For example, cooking healthy, wholesome meals, cleaning, and managing the young people’s daily structures and routines.

· To act as an appropriate role model and key worker for the children and young people, offering advice and guidance where necessary and ensuring that all their individualised care needs are being met.

· Providing advice, assistance, and support to help children and young people through the difficulties they may face in relation to their emotional and behavioural challenges.

· Being enthusiastic and supportive whilst helping children and young people to achieve their goals and optimise their full potential.

· Providing support for children and young people in relation to education, work placements, homework, home tutoring, and any extracurricular activities.

· Completing accurate records and reports about the children and young people’s progress for meetings and reviews.

· Empowering children and young people and facilitating their involvement in the decisions made about their lives and futures.

· Acting as an advocate for the children and young people during important meetings.

· Ensuring children and young people attend offsite activities and increase their social networks.

Working as Part of a Team

· Familiarise yourself with the aims and objectives of the home, and work effectively with colleagues to achieve these.

· Attend staff meetings, making a positive contribution to them to encourage development of the staff team.

· Share important information with colleagues to develop best practice.

· Give and receive feedback on professional practice with your colleagues and Managers.

· Providing informal and emotional support to colleagues when needed.

· Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions.

· Monitoring the conduct of co-workers and follow safeguarding policies and procedures on any cause for concern.

· Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them at all times.

· Completing mandatory training and maintaining an up-to-date training and personal development profile.

· Maintaining relevant financial records where appropriate.

· Responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of Health & Safety policies.
