Contract: Temporary (12 Months from Appointment)
We are looking for a Switchboard Operator to join the team at the Force Control Room. The main role of switchboard operator is to accept and transfer calls which Humberside Police receive and signpost them to various departments through the force. You will operate a computerised screen-based switchboard, effectively answering all calls and determining the destination for each call.
The role is highly customer-service focused as you will be communicating with members of the public on a regular basis via telephone, often answering queries relating to local policing information and matters, and sign posting the caller to their local police officers. You will offer advice and guidance to members of the public regarding serious accidents e.g., road closures.
There is a requirement to keep up to date with policies launched by local councils and partner agencies to ensure we as a Force are providing the best service to the public.
What the role requires:
• Competent keyboard skills.
• Experience of dealing with people over the telephone.
• Experience of working in a secure/confidential environment.
• Has the ability to work with minimum supervision and on own initiative.
• Has the ability to recognise inappropriate attitudes, language, and behaviour and to take appropriate action to prevent such behaviour.
• Flexibility to cover for colleagues’ absences, often at short notice.
