Summary


We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and enthusiastic person to join our team of Therapeutic Radiographers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

We are offering a permanent fulltime contract position that will be based at Guy's Cancer Centre in London with the occasional need to cover at the Queen Mary's Sidcup centre.

Patients are at the heart of what we do so we are looking for Therapeutic Radiographers who can provide excellent care with compassion and respect. All Radiographers in bands 5 – 7 roles have the opportunity to rotate through pre-treatment and treatment.

Equipped with eight state of the art Truebeam® linear accelerators and a Tomotherapy unit the department is fully equipped to offer IGIMRT as routine practise as well as TBI, stereotactic body and intercranial treatments.

As senior therapeutic radiographer you will pivotal in the delivery of a wide range of radiotherapy techniques whilst maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality patient care .There will also be the opportunity to develop your organisational and leadership skills to support the team leader in the day-to-day organisation of the unit and create an environment in which staff and students can learn and reach their full potential.

The departments routinely operate extended day working and shift patterns apply for machine service days and unscheduled service interruptions. Bank holiday and weekend working take place in line with the department and service operational needs. Participation on the on-call rota is a requirement of this post.

The Radiotherapy Service serves a catchment population of approximately 1.6 million and is the provider of radiotherapy for the six London boroughs – Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. The service also receives national referrals from St John’s Skin Clinic, based at GSTT, for patients requiring specialist skin radiotherapy, Total Skin Electron Body radiotherapy (TSEBT). The service also provides TBI and stereotactic radiotherapy, body and intracranial treatment, and for a very small number of private patients. The service delivers in excess of 52,000 radiotherapy treatments and works in closest collaboration with colleagues at King’s College NHS Foundation Trust, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

Professional / Clinical responsibilities
• To simulate and deliver treatment to patients, sometimes under the guidance of a more Senior Radiographer.
• To maintain accuracy in all aspects of simulation and treatment, including all calculations and adhering to the Departmental Checking Policy.
• To be responsible for the overall care of patients attending for simulation and treatment using their knowledge and skills to assess the patient’s condition on a daily basis.
• To take due care of all equipment, including performing daily Quality
Assurance checks, and reporting any faults or variations from the norm to a Senior Radiographer.
• To adhere to all departmental procedures and protocols.
• To participate in Research and Development activities as appropriate.
• To participate in Clinical Governance and Clinical Audit programmes as appropriate.
• To ensure the Radiation Regulations are adhered to.
• To participate in the on call rota to cover evenings and weekends.
Management and Leadership
• When necessary to organise the daily routine on a treatment unit within the department.
• To give general assistance to ensure the smooth running of the department and to carry out any other duties as required.

Information management
• To ensure that neat and accurate records are kept and filed appropriately.
• To be responsible for inputting clinical and patient treatment details into the Radiotherapy Electronic patient Management systems.

Education & Professional Development
• To set high standards for less experienced staff and to provide guidance and support where required.
• To be responsible for teaching and supervision of the practical training of a student Radiographer allocated to their area of responsibility and to carry out all assessments as required.
