Caledonian Sleeper manages and operate all aspects of the network with total revenues of £800m over the 15-year contract term. The contract has a workforce of over 100 employees and together with several key 3rd party suppliers, delivers the core service and specialist projects, providing a unique ‘one stop shop’ solution for Transport Scotland and their tourism and leisure aspirations. We have a vacancy for a Train Manager to join our fantastic team in Edinburgh. As a guest champion the Sleeper Train Manager will be a key player in the delivery of the Caledonian Sleeper service. The role will also be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the train, guests and crew.
You will be responsible for providing an operationally safe environment, ensuring an excellent standard of guest service, developing immediate solutions to problems encountered by guests. You will take full responsibility for the guest experience for those travelling in the seated coach, including revenue collection / protection. As part of your daily role you will compile reports on customer service issues, operational incidents, train running and performance, and defects in respect of each journey.
Candidates must be aware this role will be primarily night shifts, which will include stay overs away from home. You will work the train from Edinburgh to London, and will stay through the day in allocated accommodation, then work the train back from London to Edinburgh.
It’s recommended for candidates to be within 40 minutes – 1 hour of the station to minimise additional travel before and after shift work.
Other duties will include:
- Maintaining up to date route knowledge on all identified routes.
- To maintain competence in coupling/uncoupling procedures
- Couple / uncouple the locomotive and / or coaches during out of course situations.
- Report on board issues to operational control colleagues in a proactive manner to ensure they can be addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
- Approach challenges and disruption in a proactive manner to ensure resolution and minimal impact to guests and team members.
You must endeavour to provide a punctual train service by ensuring right time departures and keeping delays to a minimum. Liaise as necessary with Signallers, Control, Traincrew and Platform staff. Working as part of an effective team to deliver the highest standards of service to our guests. It is essential that you keep updated on all policy and procedure alterations. What you'll need to do the job

- Strong customer service skills
- which can be demonstrated as having been delivered in guest facing environment.
- It is essential that you can retain large volumes of information in relation to train routes.
- You will have the ability to carry out train operational actions including, but not limited to, shunting actions (experience desired, however not essential).
