Crynodeb

The post holder will be responsible for the promotion and development of psychological skills within the All Age 24/7 Crisis Helpline that covers the demographic area of Bolton Salford and Trafford, Manchester, and Wigan. The service is part of the Greater Manchester Clinical Assessment Service (CAS), which offers a dedicated contact number given to all known service users, their carer’s and the public via the NHS 111 and CAS systems. This is to support a timely, supportive, and quality response to service users (of all ages) and carers when they need support, advice, and information inclusive of brief interventions outside of any planned intervention.

This service aims to alleviate distress or anxiety for the service user or their carer potentially negating the need for presentation to A&E or even emergency admission to hospital. The provision of this helpline across GMMH footprint provides a consistent and quality approach across Trust services.

The post holder will lead and develop the psychological resource within the Helpline Service and will work with the service manager to develop and embed this new role. The post holder will support the supervision and development of psychological thinking in the role of the 24/7 helpline practitioners which includes assistant psychologists and multi-disciplinary staff.

Helpline practitioners receive all calls and provide immediate support, expert advice, and signpost service users to the most appropriate service. This involves assessment and brief interventions where appropriate via telephone. The post holder will be expected to support the clinical skills of helpline staff and provide regular individual and group supervision, drawing upon a psychological understanding of crisis and suicidality. There will be a need to demonstrate experience in leading on complex clinical cases, providing reflective practice and the delivery of in-house training to support continuing professional development. In terms of leadership the post holder will be required to support senior managers with service development and in liaising with departments across the trust.
