Summary


This is a unique apprenticeship opportunity to work in diagnostics and rehabilitation within the Audiology Department.

The successful apprentice candidate will become part of an audiology team that contributes to the clinical support services within the Head & Neck Care Group at HUTH. The work will involve direct contact with patients of all ages and their families as well as liaising with medical staff. As such, candidates must be 18 years of age when they start the apprenticeship (anticipated September 2024).

This is a challenging role where the successful apprentice candidate will study towards the Healthcare Science Degree: Audiology with Aston University, becoming a qualified Audiologist.

The following are examples of the duties the apprentice will undertake under supervision and following training and competency assessment:
• To undertake uncomplicated hearing tests and accurately record the results to the audiology database
• To assess for and take ear mould impressions for both adults and children
• To undertake basic repairs and cleaning of a wide range of hearing aids
• To provide and organise referrals to the hearing aid repair service
• To be able to identify basic conditions of the outer ear and refer to clinicians any findings appropriately
• To contribute to upholding health and safety within the service
• To make contributions to the Audiology department as part of the multidisciplinary team during meetings, discussions etc.
• Ensures that all departmental electronic and paper records are correct and up-to-date, including accurate filing of general documentation and results
• Meet and greet patients and their relatives/friends who attend the clinics in line with Trusts expected values and behaviours
• Opening, sorting, distribution and dispatch of post
• The accurate production, editing of, and storing of documents (i.e., letters to patients and GPs) using appropriate electronic systems
• Use of all Trust information and computer systems for day to day processes e.g. e-mails to receive and pass on information, tracking documentation and notes
• Undertakes general office duties
• Maintains professionalism at all times
