We have openings for cover staff in a modern core facility setting (two posts are available for 12 months each). Our Advanced Cytometry Platform team seek new members to support users with sophisticated cytometry instruments and services as a Senior Research Technician. We maintain 15 analysers and sorters, including those from Beckman, BD and Cytek, as well as Luminex, ImageStream, Parsortix, Helios and Hyperion. We offer staff-operated cell sorting and mass cytometry as a fee-for-service.

This is a great environment, working with the latest equipment and suiting candidates with skills in cell biology, immunology, inflammatory diseases or cancer as well as cytometry. You should be be proficient in PBMC prep and tissue culture. Ideally you have experience in assay development and supporting customer projects and internal development. Being approachable is vital, our customers appreciate responsive advice and assistance. Prior knowledge of all aspects of multi-colour flow (panel design, titration, staining, controls etc) is essential. You will support the development of high parameter assays and will be an expert operator on BD (Fortessa/ Symphony/ Aria/ Discover) for cell sorting, or Standard BioTools instruments for mass cytometry.

You should be have a BSc, postgrad is desirable but not essential, with hands-on experience for the technologies we use and a track record in a flow core lab prioritised. We are keen to see candidates trained on BD Aria systems.

We support over 400 users and 100 laboratories from various backgrounds. Goals including immune monitoring, biomarker discovery and assay development for personalised medicine and drug discovery. We have pipelines into cell sequencing and therapeutic products.
• As our new team member you will be responsible for delivering our services as an operator, primarily cell sorting or mass cytometry on a daily basis and supporting the flow, spectral and imaging cytometry technologies. You will:
ensure service operation to standard procedures, and help develop these. Following protocols and adherence to lab safety is essential.
• make informed decisions on cell analysis, sorting and/ or mass cytometry as delegated by the Head or Manager to comply with assay and user requirements.
• work independently and in a team to deliver results in a fast paced multi-user environment. Organisation, communication and positive attitude for excellent customer service are essential.
• perform scheduling, supporting data analysis, data and inventory management, instrument maintenance and QC, with general support for the seamless operation of the facility.
• be detail-oriented and motivated to learn and develop new protocols and emerging technologies relevant to our business.
• demonstrate a high level of computer competency including flow cytometry software such as FlowJo or equivalent

The Advanced Cytometry Platform (Flow Core) is co-located with the Genomics Research Platform at Guy’s Hospital on the 10th floor of the Guy's Tower. This unit was purpose-built in 2020 to host modern high performance cytometry equipment and services including cell sorting, spectral flow and mass cytometry, with imaging and multiplex capabilities to complement single cell analysis. It is used by clinical and academic and researchers from King's College London, as well as commercial and non-commercial clients, to analyse and isolate cells and integrates with pipelines for single cell sequencing and therapeutic product QC. We are a friendly team and part of a thriving and inclusive network of cytometrists in London and the UK. Staff take an active role in meetings and conferences and we would expect new members to also take advantage of such opportunities.
