Overview
Are you passionate about improving services and enhancing user experience? Have you got product management experience and want to develop your career further? If so, our Product Lead role could be for you.

A Product Lead defines, owns and solve problems. They manage a product through discovery, alpha, beta and live states. They support lead and senior product managers. They may line manage associate product managers and support their professional development. They have a deep knowledge of product management techniques and are developing expert skills. They may be involved in recruitment. This can be an ‘entry level’ role for new product managers who have been working in other digital roles or civil servants with sufficient experience across other competencies.

DDaT Pay Supplement
This post attracts a £5000 Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review. This post is part of the Scottish Government DDaT profession. As a member of the profession you will join the professional development system, currently BCS RoleModelplus.

Main Duties
Product Delivery and Operations:
• Identify and compare best processes and delivery methods, measuring and evaluating outcomes
• Help teams decide on approaches and manage outcomes, prioritising work and adhering to agreed minimum viable product (MVP) priorities
• Demonstrate advanced understanding of design, technology, and data principles
• Implement solutions for assisted digital and integrate products with other services
• Ensure products get used and realise benefits by linking work to business cases

Strategy and Planning:
• Build business cases based on user needs and apply experience in multiple parts of the product life cycle
• Recognise when to move forward or stop, and identify appropriate deliverables and stakeholders
• Plan and engage with stakeholders throughout the project, designing operational processes for product life cycle

Problem-Solving and Collaboration:
• Anticipate and defend against problems, explaining complex issues in abstract terms
• Articulate problems and build problem-solving capabilities in others
•Collaborate with user researchers, represent users internally, and champion user research

Communication and Influence;
• Explain differences between user needs and desires, prioritise approaches to understand user stories, and offer recommendations on tools and methods
• Work with senior stakeholders, challenging and prioritising constraints to turn them into advantages
• Adapt approaches to constraints and effectively get buy-in from the organisation
