Interim Senior Lawyer– Adults Education & Employment Team

Pay Rate: £26.78 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 35 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Role Length: This opening assignment is for 5-6 months

City: Woolwich, Greater London

The purpose of the role is to provide proactive, clear and concise legal advice and assistance to client departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Undertake proceedings in all courts, tribunals, public enquiries and arbitrations.
Undertake an extensive caseload of complex legal work in the legal practice areas.
Negotiate on behalf of the Council.
Interpret and draft reports on legislation.
Attend committees, working parties, case conferences etc. as appropriate.
Managers up to 6 directly managed staff.
Manages up to 15 indirectly managed consultancy/contracting staff.

Qualifications:

Qualified legal executive, solicitor or barrister.



Skills & Experience:

Advocacy experience in the County Court.
Leadership skills.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write accurate and engaging copy/correspondence for a range of audiences.
Experience of law and practise relating to planning.
Strong negotiation skills.
Ability to personally handle with some supervision all matters within the post holder’s area of responsibility and to carry a heavy caseload comprising of general litigation relating to all aspects of debt collection, from negotiation, to Court action and finally enforcement.
Ability to appear as an advocate at court or in public inquiries or tribunals if necessary.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
