This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, organised and diligent individual with good IT skills, to assist, develop and effectively manage databases to failsafe NUH Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes . The successful candidate will work closely with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Managers. By working to identify and prevent missed screening opportunities this rewarding role will make an essential contribution to ensure high standards of care for all of the maternity population.

Line management of staff will be required in this role completing annual appraisals and staff one to ones. Also management of sickness reviews and any HR issues with the support of the Screening Managers. Report screening incidents via datix and will be responsible for the completion of screening incident assessment forms where appropriate and support the management of the incident dashboard.

The Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) failsafe officer supports the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Managers in the collation and entry of data for the Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes, Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy, Down’s syndrome screening and Fetal Anomaly Screening, Haemoglobinopathy screening, Newborn Infant Physical examination, and Newborn Bloodspot Screening, also including relevant vaccination programmes. The failsafe officer will identify screening coverage of the eligible population and ensure safety of the screening programmes. They will work closely with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Managers to facilitate failsafe mechanisms to identify and also prevent missed screening opportunities and maintain an audit trail for all of the above mentioned screening programmes. The ANNB failsafe officer will also maintain and evolve mechanisms to collect cohort data for the key performance indicators (KPI), and for the National Screening Committee Annual Report for Antenatal and Newborn Screening, including the Congenital Anomalies Register (CAR) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) Quarterly data

The ANNB failsafe officer will be expected to communicate with other professionals involved in the screening process, to participate in the organisation of meetings, take minutes for the meetings, preparation of teaching materials and dissemination of performance management letters.

The post holder will provide support to the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Managers for the Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes, working within strict departmental and national procedures with responsibility for receiving, maintaining and providing manual and electronic data containing sensitive and confidential screening information.
