An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife to join and lead our team of Midwives and Support workers in continuing to provide a safe and quality service to the women, birthing people and their families in Swindon and surrounding areas.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:
• A clear understanding of the role of the Senior Midwife
• Demonstrate excellent leadership skills
• Be confident in facilitating evidence based Antenatal and Postnatal care and supporting other staff members to provide high quality care
• Be proficient in providing to support junior staff with regards to relevant clinical skills such as Examination of the Newborn, Induction of labour, management of emergency situations and management of high risk pregnancies as well as positive ward experience.
• Ability to safely manage maternity services operations in the absence of the Matron.
• Staff management skills.

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for a defined caseload/team including appropriate management of resources and contributory responsibility for a defined budget. They will provide effective midwifery leadership in a multidisciplinary team. The position provides a specialist clinical role in addition to the management of operational issues and the provision of expert health advice. Essentially this will incorporate the provision of care to patients and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the area, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld.

1. Be responsible for the delivery of care to ensure the individual needs of the mothers, babies and families are met based on a holistic approach to care.
2. Be responsible for maintaining own clinical competence in line with NMC Standard 17 Essential skills clusters.
3. Demonstrate competence in relevant clinical skills including examination of the newborn, IV cannulation, IV drug administration and neonatal and obstetric emergencies and support other midwives, student midwives and junior medical staff in their acquisition of these skills including provision of training sessions.
4. Be responsible for shift Co-ordination and management on a daily basis including the co-ordination of Hazel
ward and will use their judgement to ensure safe allocation of staff within the clinical area.
