Crynodeb

The post of Subspecialty trainee in Reproductive Medicine (RM) will involve the Special Interest Training Module (SITM) in Management of Subfertility (MoS) in Practice (CiPs) and the RM subspecialty specific CiPs. Within the training programme there are four Management of Subfertility SITM CiPs, five RM subspecialty specific CiPs and one subspecialty specific research CiP. The subspecialty trainee will have training in all 10 CiPs and these also include a Research CIP. While previous research experience is not necessary, completion of the Clinical Research APM/SIPM, a higher degree or 1st author papers are desirable. The programme structure is for 2 years but is competency based and may be completed earlier after assessment bythe RCOG sub speciality training committee. The programme structure includes core training in Infertility and Reproductive surgery. Training in Infertility will encompass investigation and management of the infertile couple communication and dealing with ethical issues. Training in assisted conception treatment including diagnosis, treatment planning, monitoring, trouble shooting, oocyte retrievals, embryo transfers, surgical sperm retrievals, early pregnancy scans, and follow up of failed cycles. The other core training areas are: reproductive surgery which will be extended to include advanced laparoscopy/hysteroscopy depending on the skills and aptitude of the trainee, General Endocrinology, Paediatric and adolescent Endocrinology/ gynaecology, Urology, Genetics, Laboratory, diagnostic and therapeutic Radiology, Pathology. Sessions in Family planning and Menopause will be included. The Trainee will undertake the Trust induction programme, as well as the Fertility centre medical staff induction programme. The training programme is tailored to the needs of the trainee. A subspecialty research CiP generic to each SST has been included in the SST curricula. This builds on the research CiP from the core curriculum and brings the capabilities and knowledge requirements up to subspecialty level. However, completion of the Clinical Research APM/SIPM, a higher degree or 1st author papers would make the applicant for SST posts more competitive.
