We have an exciting opportunity for a year-long secondment to cover the Clinical Specialist Band 7 OT post within Croydon Community Adult Services.
It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 6 OT who wants to step up in career progression and gain experience working at Band 7 level, to get involved with service development or grow their leadership and supervision skills.
Equally it is an opportunity for a Band 7 OT who wants to make a sideways move to gain some Community based clinical practice experience and broaden/ consolidate their range of Band 7 and professional skills.
This is an established and core OT role. It involves working clinically in a Croydon Locality multidisciplinary Team providing direct OT assessment and interventions to service users. The team also has a full time Band 6 OT post and the two posts work together to provide Occupational Therapy for the team caseload.
The clinical teams are based at Jeanette Wallace House in Central Croydon, and this is easily accessible by public transport (East Croydon Station.)
The post is well supported through supervision with the Professional Lead OT and collaborative work with the Clinical Specialist Band 7 OT for Inpatient Services based at Bethlem Royal Hospital
This role is directly clinical and provides Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions to service users being supported by the Croydon Central Locality CMHT.
The Band 7 OT provides OT leadership and supervision to the OTs within all the Croydon Community mental health teams, the OT Apprentice and OT students on clinical practice.
The role includes working as part of the Community Management Team to support Community transformation, governance, evaluation, and service development activities. There is opportunity gain experience in taking a lead on defined projects and service audit and evaluation activities.
Applicants need to have extensive experience in working directly with mental health service users, preferably in a range of environments. Have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with Service users and as part of a multidisciplinary team. They need to have a sound understanding of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions. Supervision skills, the ability to work flexibly and be responsive are essential.

The Community Mental Health Teams are busy and support an adult client group with a wide range of mental health and social care issues in their recovery. This can include crisis work, collaborative work with other teams and engaging with service users families and wider support networks.
• To lead on the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of high quality evidence based and person-centred Occupational Therapy provision for people with complex mental health issues who require assessment and/or treatment by an Adult Community Mental Health Team.
• To manage a complex OT caseload of Community Locality Team clients, use evidence based / client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
• To provide specialist advice on the assessment and intervention of clients’ occupational needs and specialist Occupational Therapy advice to the wider Community Mental Health Teams to promote Occupational Therapy approaches to care.
• To provide clinical leadership for Community OT staff through professional supervision and provide training and consultancy for OT within the specialty (Community Practice)
• To be an active member of the Community Management Team and participate in the planning, development, evaluation and governance of clinical services using advanced clinical skills and knowledge.
• To work in collaboration with the Professional Head OT Croydon Directorate in the development of the OT service, clinical and professional practice in line with best available evidence, quality standards and guidance.
• To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement and provide oversight for OT students and OT Apprentice co-ordination with Croydon Community OTs.
• To develop and maintain community links relevant to service users and carers supported by the Adult Community Mental Health Teams.
