The role supports paediatric Haematology, Oncology & BMT education, including the popular Care of the Child with Cancer module at the University of the West of England
As a Lecturer Practitioner, you will be planning, preparing and providing teaching sessions which are tailored to the learning needs of those working in specific clinical areas within BRHC and the Southwest, offering academic support and clinical expertise, using nationally agreed competencies to assess learning. The primary function of this role is to facilitate the running of all paed. Haematology, Oncology & BMT education and training programmes which RNs attend throughout their career in this speciality. You will also learn to use digital learning platforms such as Moodle and support innovation in training and practice to improve clinical care in this area and for central venous access. You will work closely with the teams in Haematolgy, Oncology & BMT services and associated Operational Delivery Network, across all patient ages, including adolescent care. You will also work with other Clinical Support Facilitators across BRHC and teams in other hospitals across the region to build collaboration for clinical teaching resources to promote consistent practices across the Southwest.
The role will be supported by the Matron for paediatric Haematology, Oncology and BMT Services and the Lead Nurse for the Faculty of Children's Nurse Education, within friendly, supportive teams who are committed to high-calibre education and safe and effective clinical care. Both senior nurse roles share responsibility for the post to enable a mix of both clinical and education support for the educator. The role has a degree of flexibility in day to day working pattern and working from home is supported when appropriate. The role will include time to maintain your clinical skills across paediatric Haematology and Oncology, working around your classroom teaching activities.
Applicants are expected to have considerable clinical experience in this speciality area and familiarity with practice assessment. An aptitude for bedside teaching, as well as some experience in classroom based teaching and a desire to embark on supporting virtual learning is essential. In addition, a willingness to engage and provide an expert voice at local, regional and national level about contemporary practices within paediatric Haematology and Oncology is expected.
