Summary

Head of communications, Newham Hospital, Band8a

Barts Health NHS Trust is on a journey to deliver safe and compassionate care to more than 6,000 patients every single day across one of the largest Trusts in the UK. In order to better support our group of hospitals, we are looking for a strategic, enthusiastic and highly motivated head of communications to join our busy communications team.

Newham hospital serves one of the most deprived boroughs in the country, with a diverse population that is growing dramatically. It has one of the busiest maternity departments in London, hosts the group centre for day case bone and joint surgery, and is developing specialist expertise as a centre for women’s health.

As a communications team, we are responsible for promoting and defending the reputation of the trust. We do this through providing strategic communications and support to our executive and hospital management teams, proactive and responsive media and stakeholder relations, engaging social and digital channels, creatively promoting our brand and inspiring internal communications.

As a head of communications, you will provide strategic communications advice and relationship manager support to our Newham Hospital executive team.

As part of our corporate communications team, you will oversee the development and delivery of comprehensive communications strategies for Newham Hospital; contribute to the communications support to the whole of the Barts Health group of hospitals, lead on trust-wide projects and campaigns that support the delivery of our objectives and business decisions; and work closely with the specialist communications experts in the communications team to deliver creative and effective communications strategies.

NHS experience is not essential, although it is desirable. People with experience working in a large and complex organisation with multiple sites, or experience working in a large charity would also be viewed favourably.

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which ourWeCarevalues and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by ourWeCarevalues and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.

We are dedicated to being an outstanding place to work and will work with you to get the best experience. We know flexible working is not a one size fits all and will mean something different to everyone. We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.
