JOB DESCRIPTION
Part-Time Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I’m a retired engineer in my late 80’s living in Barry. I am a positive and independent man and asking for support is new to me. A part of me keeps thinking my mobility will come back to me but it has been 20 years since my stroke and my mobility is very limited. I can move from a chair to wheelchair; walk a few steps, but otherwise I use a wheelchair when out.
An interest of mine was photography and this is something I’d like to rediscover.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
You will provide respite for my daughter who is my main support. You’ll support me to maintain my independence in participating in outdoor activities.
HOURS OF WORK
8 hours per week
The days and times are flexible and will change from one week to the next. Flexibility is essential for this role.
RATES OF PAY
£13.00 per hour
40p mileage when you use your car
TASKS WILL INCLUDE
· Accompanying me on a range of outdoor activities, weather dependent
· Trips out for a coffee and cake or meal
· A scenic drive stopping off for a light snack along the way
· Engaging me in conversation
· Enjoying a cup of tea and conversation with me at home when the weather isn’t ideal for an outdoor trip
· Assisting me to safely get from chair to wheelchair to car and vice versa
· Lifting my wheelchair in and out your car
· Pushing my wheelchair when we are out
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
· Someone easy to engage with and keep a conversation going
· Be able to give reassurance and guidance when needed

· You must be flexible in terms of days and times worked

The post is subject to a probationary period and a DBS (Police) Check at no cost to you. You will have to supply 2 references, one of which should be able to comment on your work practices.
