A challenging opportunity has arisen for a Senior Head of Estates role to manage the Barts Health Newham University Hospital Estate.We are looking to recruit an initiative-taking and flexible Senior Head of Estates to lead a team of directly employed staff for the delivery and performance of the Retained Estate and Technical support for the PFI Estate.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.

The Senior Head of Estates for Hard FM will:

Be responsible for the day to day running of the Hospital Estate (Reactive Maintenance Planned Maintenance and Management/Development and of the Delivery Capital Backlog programme, and interface for the delivery Capital Schemes.

Develop and lead our in-house multi-skilled Estates team to deliver Hard FM services for Newham University Hospital retained Estate.

Be the primary interface (technical) for PFI hard services to ensure compliance with PFI contract schedules, liaising with Group Estates Contracts Management team.





Be a positive team member with a can-do attitude accompanied with a recognised understanding of the latest HTM’s (Heath Technical Memorandums), conversant with up-to-date standards; ACOP’s, BS & EN standards & SFG20 Standard Maintenance Specifications as they affect the management of Building Engineering Services throughout a frequently complex Health Care environment.

Demonstrate a clear understanding in the management of statutory compliance as they affect NHS building premises. Areas of compliance would typically be in water hygiene, electrical systems, asbestos and fire management, medical gases, and air conditioning systems.

Have proven managerial specialist skills in leadership and contractor management.

Have excellent communicative skills that can articulate issues and problems to senior management in a meaningful way both to clinical and non-clinical members of staff.

Be able to demonstrate an understanding of financial management within an NHS setting and be able to provide necessary experience obtained in the control of delegated budgets.

Be required to participate in the Estates emergency on-call rota as required which may require out of hours working at all Barts Health Trust site

Maintain effective working relationships across all clinical services and corporate divisions within the trust and external organisations

Lead on preparing business cases for EFM capital funding including the development strategic estate plans for the Estate.
