Main Purpose of Job

The prime role of the legal secretary is to provide direct support the fee earner or department to enable them to operate at optimum efficiency. This will include but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below. The legal secretary is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative.

Main Responsibilities (this list is non-exhaustive)

Main Tasks: List of areas of responsibilities

• Audio and copy typing;
• Extensive formatting legal documents/correspondence;
• Correspondence and diary management for those you are supporting;
• Preparation of documents for court;
• Managing all filing and legal documents to be prepared for storage;
• Reviewing all incoming post for specific lawyers;
• Minute taking;
• Responding to client emails and telephone calls direct;
• Ensuring the files remain compliant in terms of the file maintenance and form filling;
• Arranging and booking meetings;
• Upward management of the fee earners to ensure deadlines, key dates, and meetings are not missed;
• Preparing posting slips for financial activity on the client files;
• Invoicing the clients with supervision and guidance;

Knowledge, skills and experience required

• Excellent organisational and time management skills;
• At least 3 years experience as a legal secretary;
• Good IT skills, including knowledge of a range of software packages;
• The capacity to prioritise tasks and work under pressure;
• Ability to liaise well with others and delegate tasks;
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• Ability to work on your own initiative;
• flexibility and adaptability to changing workloads;
• Upward management;
• A good understanding of the law (within the area you work in);
• To become an integral part of the team;
• The ability to complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly;
• Social and positive attitude and personality;
• A smart and tidy appearance;
• Excellent attention to detail.
