Job Title: Support Worker

Responsible to: Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer (Mum)

Hours: 4-8 hours per week – variable shifts – school holidays only

Hourly Rate of Pay: £11.50

Based at: Employer’s own home in Stowmarket, Suffolk and out in the local community.

Job Purpose

The purpose of the job is to support and be a friendly companion to a young girl with autism, global development delay and diabetes. The child lives at home with her family. The purpose is to build a trusting, professional relationship with the child and to support her with all her needs. Experience with caring for children with SEND needs is desirable.

Main duties:

To support with:
- Personal care e.g., washing, toileting.
- Constant supervision is always required.
- Support with all safety aspects.
- To be a social friendly companion to the child
- Assisting with diabetes medication – when she eats you will be required to record the Stats, support the child with maintaining her sugar levels.
- To support with sensory play
- The young girl requires her glasses on at all times and support with be required to maintain this.
- The young girl does have epilepsy, this is controlled but you will need to be aware of the procedures.
- You will be required to keep her entertained in the home or out in the community such as going on scenic walks, parks, swimming, Play world, beaches etc.
- The young girl does have a wheelchair, and this will need to be used in more populated areas.
- To build a supportive relationship and take part in activities which the child enjoys.
- To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.

Personal Specification

• Flexible in the hours and times that you can work.
• Experience with caring for children with SEND needs is desirable.
• Have a good sense of humour and enjoy a friendly joke.
• You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety.
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• You should have knowledge and understanding of risks.
• Be patient and supportive.

This post is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check at the Employers request prior to commencing employment. This is confidential and at no cost to yourself. The post carries a 6-month probationary period.
