Our staff feel the trust offers progression from within and that they are valued as individuals. The therapies department places an emphasis on supportive learning and the sharing of knowledge and practices across all professional groups. We are now looking for new team members to take on an exciting new development between the inpatient orthopaedic physiotherapy and outpatient physiotherapy MSK teams.

As part of this specialist rotational Band 6 post, you will rotate into inpatient Trauma and orthopaedics, Musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy and outpatient hand therapy. These 8 month rotations may be either at Tunbridge Wells or Maidstone Hospital. You will have experience of working as part of an MDT and ensuring the clinical development of yourself and others and will demonstrate the ability to case manage through an understanding of the full patient pathway. You will be supported by experienced senior staff and will have the opportunity to develop both clinically and managerially, working with junior staff and students, depending on your level of experience.

We offer a friendly and supportive working environment which actively supports Continuing Professional Development, through an established appraisal system, in-service training, and post graduate library facilities. You will be required to travel between the sites of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. On your orthopaedic rotations you will be part of a 7 day service, whilst on your outpatient physiotherapy rotations you will be part of a 4 day working pattern (Please note all services are working towards 6-7 day working)

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust’s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients – the first of its kind in the country.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.netif this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

This post forms part of the new Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre team at Maidstone Hospital. Over 200 new posts will support the new Centre, which is part of a national scheme to deliver more than 50 new surgical hubs across England. The new Centre will open in spring 2024 and treat patients from across the region, increasing the Trust’s capacity for planned surgical procedures.

The Centre will contain the latest novel open plan laminar flow theatres; open-plan surgical areas where up to three patients are treated in a dedicated space with a specialised air canopy over each station to prevent the spread of infection. The new facility will also include a 14-bed inpatient ward and a 10-bed day case ward, with recovery, x-ray and therapy space, all within a dedicated elective building.

The Centre will expand orthopaedic surgical capacity across Kent and Medway, playing an important part in elective recovery and the reduction of patient waiting times across the region.
