Summary

Position of the role in Claire House The post holder reports to and is accountable to the Hospice Manager Leadership and line management as required for the service Member of the wider clinical leadership team The post holder will work collaboratively with the Clinical Leadership Team (CLT), Hospice Manager, Hospice Inpatient Clinical Lead, Hospice Inpatient Manager, Practice Education Team and Team Leaders across all care services to ensure the delivery and compliance required for a safe, effective and high-quality service provision for all children and families Scope of Job, Duties & Responsibilities Ensure that quality assurance processes are embedded and robust, that responses to clinical incidents and complaints are appropriately managed and that quality assurance processes, policies, regulatory frameworks and CQC standards are met; including: - Clinical Governance/Safeguarding - Infection Control - Information Governance - Incident Reporting/Patient Safety - Duty of Candour - Complaints Management - Risk Assessment and Risk Register - Health & Safety Clinical/Infection Prevention and Control Clinical lead and role model for clinical care staff to provide safe, high quality care for all children, young people and their families Provide visible clinical leadership in practice Lead on the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) agenda across care services, ensuring that best practice is followed and IPC working practices are constantly under review Ensure that any safety alerts and national guidance are implemented in a timely and appropriate way Facilitate the development/review of clinical policies, procedures, guidance and systems to deliver the requirements of relevant national regulatory frameworks Standards & Risk To promote a culture of continuous improvement To lead on the audit, analysis and reporting to Clinical Governance Committee and external bodies Monitor, analyse and report on trends, learning, and system analysis from incidents Ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission standards, with a key role in collating and updating evidence on the Vantage system Develop appropriate plans to minimise risks, including identifying resource implications, and changes in practice and processes where required Investigation and management of clinical incidents and complaints, with actions and outcomes to continuously improve practice Champion the use of the risk management system (Vantage) by all care services staff Support delivery of local and national patient safety frameworks ensuring staff involved in incidents are supported and offered feedback Provide feedback to staff through various feedback methods including presentations, teaching, newsletters and individual sessions Develop appropriate action plans to minimise risks, including identifying resource implications, and changes in practices and processes required People The post holder will take line management and mentorship responsibilities as required by the service. Appropriate advice should be sought from the Hospice Manager or HR Advisor Provide feedback to staff through various feedback methods including presentations, teaching, newsletters and individual sessions To act as a resource for care services staff regarding aspects of clinical practice and care Provide motivational leadership and support to direct reports and wider care services teams Lead, manage and develop care services staff to work effectively and achieve objectives in line with the organisations strategic plan Lead and support staff through the process of change and innovation Champion Claire House values across the organisation by acting as a positive role model for staff and volunteers Promote an open, supportive and responsive working environment, by maintaining regular contact with team members, listening and responding to concerns and provide or facilitate appropriate and fair support Promote a coaching culture within Claire House In collaboration with the Head of Workforce and Hospice Manager coordinate and participate in the recruitment and selection of new care team staff, ensuring all new staff receive an appropriate induction package and allocation of a mentor Manage sickness absence and performance / disciplinary management in collaboration with the Hospice Manager and HR Ensure that all staff adhere to Claire House policies and procedures To support staff in ensuring practices are of a high standard and poor practice is challenged and escalated appropriately Coordinate and participate as required in the duty manager on-call rota Leadership / Management Work closely and collaboratively with the Hospice Manager to act as positive role model for the staff including volunteers Deputise for the Hospice Manager as required Represent Claire House at relevant hospice / palliative care networks and other similar groups Service Development Engage with the organisational strategic planning Ensure that strategic and operational planning processes are cascaded across the care team Be an ambassador for Claire House Dimensions and Limits of Authority The post holder will have responsibility for the promotion of continual quality improvement and governance that ensures compliance to meet requirements of CQC and Commissioners and reports to the Hospice Manager The post holder will take line management and mentorship responsibilities as required by the service. Appropriate advice should be sought from the Hospice Manager or HR Advisor Contribute to strategic service development in partnership with the clinical leadership team To work autonomously ensuring personal accountability in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct. Designated lead for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Qualification and Skills Level Significant clinical experience Significant experience of working effectively in a Quality/Governance role within a childrens hospice or similar work environment Degree with evidence of relevant post graduate education Excellent interpersonal & communication skills Proven ability in line management and mentorship General Claire House Requirements Adhere to and comply with organisational policies, procedures and guidelines at all times Implement risk management strategies (including reporting, registering risk and learning), taking all reasonable steps to manage and promote a safe and healthy working environment which is free from discrimination Implement Health and Safety regulations through risk assessment. Maintain a constant awareness of health, welfare and safety issues affecting colleagues, service users, volunteers, visitors and themselves, reporting any accidents or faults in line with organisational policy. Participate fully in health and safety training Comply with the organisational policy on confidentiality and the Data Protection Act 1998 relating to information held manually or on computerised systems Respect the confidentiality and privacy of children, young adults, volunteers and staff at all times Participate in personal training, development and appraisal, and attend all relevant training courses as required Take part in organisational research Embrace the positive volunteer culture which Claire House strives to create.
