Summary

New Directions College is Reading Borough Council’s Community Learning and Skills service dedicated to empowering individuals through lifelong learning and skill development.


Under the successful tenure of our current Principal, who is moving on to a promoted role, New Directions College has grown to be a successful, place-based College and a regional lead in skills development and nationally recognised for best practice.



This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and strategic leader with a strong track record of delivery to join our ambitious College and develop our adult skills strategy.


The new Berkshire Prosperity Board aims to drive and deliver economic prosperity across Berkshire and skills and education is a key workstream. New Directions College is strategically placed to develop skills and education in Reading and across Berkshire.

About You:
We are seeking an inspirational, dynamic and visionary leader who can lead the College into an exciting new phase on our journey to Outstanding.


You will be an experienced collaborative leader skilled in partnership working to develop relationships within Reading and the region to deliver education and skills excellence.


We are seeking an ambitious and passionate individual who can provide strategic and operational leadership. You will have a track record in delivering an outstanding quality of education in the lifelong learning or Further Education sector and a successful track record of working within quality frameworks, and business development.


You will be able to translate policy into meaningful direction, lead on strategy for the service and Borough, and produce coherent plans which seek to make an impact on the community and people’s lives. You will provide visionary leadership to advance the mission and goals of the College and lead the College’s Governance function.


You will be skilled at evaluating and assessing the effectiveness of programmes and initiatives, making data-driven decisions to drive continuous improvement.



You will need to be politically astute, and able to successfully collaborate with community partners, industry leaders, and educational institutions acting as an ambassador to raise the profile of the College locally and nationally.

You’ll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability. As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you’ll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.
