Summary


The post holder supports a comprehensive and efficient payroll and pension service in a confidential and professional manner. Duties included administering the NHS Pension Scheme at local level, calculating and processing expenses for LET employees working with the Payroll Expenses Clerk and supporting the Payroll Officers with payroll processing.

The post holder applies information from NHS Employers, HMRC and NHS Pensions whilst adhering to Trust policy and procedure. They provide support and information to HR colleagues, managers and employees as required.
• Provide support to the Payroll Team with regard to payroll and pension related queries.
• Plan work accordingly to ensure timescales and deadlines are met.
• Help complete NHS Pensions related issues including the use of Pensions Online (POL) system. Understand current regulations relating to NHS Pensions Scheme and how this is implemented.
• Suggest and implement appropriate corrective action with regard to payroll and pension issues by way of communication with the team.
• Attend relevant training courses to ensure up to date knowledge and understanding of legislative requirements and statutory regulations.
• Oversee the Payroll Expenses to ensure the EASY electronic expenses payment process is completed timely.
• Input data into ESR and other appropriate systems ensuring a high degree of accuracy at all times.
• Work closely with Payroll Officers to develop knowledge and understanding of payroll processing.

• Ensure compliance with internal and external standard operating procedures and propose changes to policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with rules on the distribution of personal identifiable information.
• Provide updates regarding workloads to the Senior Payroll Officer.
• File and retrieve documents, as required.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the expenses system.
• Respond to requests from external agencies under supervision from Payroll Officers.
• Assist with the distribution of employee payslips.
• Assist with regular and/or ad-hoc projects.
• Deal with Payroll Enquiries and direct to Payroll Officers or Senior Payroll Officer as appropriate.
• Cover for work colleagues in their absence and at the demands of the service.
• Provide advice to and demonstrate work activities to new and/or less experience staff.
• Any other duties commensurate with Band.
