Crynodeb

We are looking to recruit a passionate and dedicated obstertric fellow at North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) as part of the RCP credential pilot, which when completed full time runs over a 12-month period.

The post will be based predominantly at Southmead Hospital, with some clinical sessions at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW). UHBW provides particular expertise in obstetric haematology and obstetric cardiology, and the post holder will be able to take advantage of educational opportunities on both sites. NBT has maternal medicine clinics for women with a range of medical conditions as well as a dedicated obstetric nephrology clinic. Pre-pregnancy advice clinics are also provided.

NBT is the host provider of the Southwest Maternal Medicine Network (SWMMN), which is a collaboration between NBT and UHBW. The SWMMN provides clinical advice and MDT discussion for women with pre-existing or acquired medical illness across the Southwest. The post holder will have the opportunity to attend MDT meetings to plan care for these women, and clinical review of some of these women in clinic.

You will be expected to be a fully integrated member of the maternal medicine team, attending MDT meetings and clinics.

The post holder will have the opportunity to attend MDT meetings to plan care for these women, and clinical review of some of these women in clinic.

The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in simulation sessions managing women with medical problems in pregnancy. This is a new initiative based in the simulation centre in NBT and has received excellent feedback.

There will be 50% GIM on calls included in this post. You must be able to fulfil all the duties of the post, including the on-call commitments (general medical on call rota).

NBT is a large and busy trust, with 6,000 births per annum. NBT has all major medical specialties, and is a tertiary referral centre for women with significant medical problems; regional nephrology including transplant and dialysis unit, regional connective tissue disease, regional neurosciences centre including the regional stroke services. The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) delivers on-site consultant presence from 0800-2200 seven days a week.

Within Women’s and Children’s, NBT hosts the placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) network, and the complex termination of pregnancy (TOP) network.

Southmead Hospital is a fantastic place to develop professionally, and we hope that you enjoy working at North Bristol Trust. Many trainees have found their time here very fulfilling and enjoyable many coming back to pursue or extend research or educational fellowships allowing them to pursue their interests at a higher level.

Please note that this post is for higher specialty trainees in medical specialties, and higher specialty trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology will unfortunately not be considered for this role.
